Smart Water Scheme for Licensed Premises is expanded to whole of South Yorkshire

We had previously reported on a Smartwater Scheme receiving funding for Licensed Premises in Sheffield.

Any project which helps promote a welcoming and friendly environment and deters troublesome clientele is clearly of benefit to licenced premises.

Premises have reported that the spray has largely been a “fantastic visual deterrent” and that “on seeing, or being told about Smartwater, situations are quickly diffused”

Following that successful six month trial, the scheme is being rolled out by the Police to premises across South Yorkshire.

The Police have said that more than 70 door staff have already been given specialist training in its use.

Supt Lee Berry has told the BBC that it would only be used "in serious incidents" and that "We will be monitoring its use and keeping track of how often it is being deployed,”
