Proposed Welsh Vaping Ban Falls

17 Mar
2016

Yesterday in a somewhat surprising move the Welsh Assembly did not pass the Public Health Bill, the terms of which we have previously reported upon. This included a proposed partial ban on on e-cigarette use in some public places.

The vote was tied at 26 – 26 after the proposed free vote for Plaid Cymru Assembly Members  was dropped amidst a disagreement with Labour. As the vote was tied the presiding officer was required to vote against the proposal thus making the vote 27 – 26 against.

Also included within the bill were a compulsory licensing system for tattooists and prohibition of intimate piercing for under 16’s

It appears from the reports we have read that this was not a refusal of the bill to be passed on principle but on a disagreement between Plaid and Labour.

If matters change we will keep you updated.
