Edinburgh - SEV resolution

17 Oct
2019

On Monday (21st October) Edinburgh City Council’s Regulatory Committee will meet to consider the results of their consultation regarding the adoption of SEV provision.

It is anticipated that the relevant provisions of the Air Weapons and Licensing Scotland Act 2015, will be adopted allowing the City to licence SEV venues and, if deemed desirable, cap the number of venues in the City.  This follows 65% of respondents to the consultation either agreeing or strongly agreeing that the Council should licence SEVs in Edinburgh.

A copy of the report which will be considered by the Committee can be found here.

The report includes recommended next steps which include evidence sessions with key stakeholders to provide members with a detailed and robust evidence base from which to inform any decision making (regarding the terms of the policy).

The Edinburgh news reports that A trade union representing strippers in the Capital has welcomed proposals to introduce a licensing regime for lap-dancing clubs – calling on authorities to prioritise safety and rights of performers in any shake-up.

We shall keep you updated regarding the parameters of any final policy.
