Chelmsford Next for Levy?

Chelmsford is the latest area that appears to be about to adopt a Late Night Levy (LNL).

At a meeting on 3 July the Licensing Committee approved the proposal for a LNL for premises that wish to remain open for the sale of alcohol from 1am – 6 am.

There are certain exemptions proposed which include overnight accommodation, theatres, cinemas, and New Year’s Eve.

The proposal now goes to full council on 16 July 2014 for approval and if approved it is proposed will take effect on 1 November – a tight timetable for those who may wish to avoid the LNL by lodging a variation to their premises licence.
