Weymouth and Portland EMRO? Not now!

2015

At the full Licensing Committee of Weymouth and Portland Council held on the 9 July, Councillors rejected proposals to consult upon the implementation of an EMRO in their district citing a lack of evidence to support the proposition.

Dorset Police pointed to a number of industry initiatives including Pub Watch and this year’s launch of the Best Bar None Scheme as evidence of ongoing co-operation between the industry and the local authorities.

These schemes point to a team effort by all parties to address issues of crime and disorder associated with the late night economy.

While such initiatives are active, it would seem appropriate (and indeed good news) for the Licensing Authority to determine to refrain from introduction of an EMRO at this stage; the matter was noted for review in 12 months.

We shall continue to monitor the situation in Weymouth & Portland and across England and Wales.
