UKHospitality response to PPL/MPLC Copyright Consultations

UKHospitality the trade body representing over 65,000 in the sector, including pubs, hotels, restaurants, nightclubs, and more. Indicated its proposed action in response to Consultations by the PPL (Collection Society representing record companies) and MPLC (representing TV production and movie studios) over copyright issues.

MPLC, have been considering collection of copyright for TV’s in rooms across all accommodation providers. 

PPL are consulting until the 5th October 2018 on charging an increased tariff for special featured events (discos and recorded music).

UKHospitality have noted The proposed fee increases, coupled with structural changes would see minimum increases of over 450% for operators.”

The sector will note that UKHospitality are seeking Legal advice from a copyright QC and an economic consultancy, regarding the evidence base collated by PPL in the consultation.
