SIA business approval scheme consultation

Since 2006 the SIA has promoted and run an Approved Contractor Scheme (ACS) to fulfil its statutory responsibility for an approvals scheme for private security businesses. The intention of the ACS is to contribute to public confidence in the private security industry by requiring approved businesses to meet certain quality standards and by providing buyers of security services and the general public with information about private security businesses that meet these standards via the public register of approved contractors.

The SIA has newly launched a public consultation on potentially significant changes to the business approval scheme. The consultation invites views on:

  • The case for change in principle
  • emerging thinking on changes that the SIA proposes to develop further
  • whether there are other changes to be considered as the SIA develops the future scheme

Responses are particularly welcome from the public who rely on security; private security industry and its customers; representatives of other standard-setting bodies; and other stakeholders and interested parties who are focused on public protection.
