SCOTLAND - Another visitor levy consultation - Perth and Kinross

As each week goes by another area appears to look at the Visitor Levy as an income generator.

This time (19th August) Perth and Kinross launched the required 12-week public consultation.

The website states:

“A final decision on whether to introduce a Visitor Levy will be taken by Council after responses of this consultation have been considered.” But it is likely to follow in the footsteps of the other Scottish councils who have voted inn favour and will implement next year- Glasgow, Aberdeen, Stirling and West Dumbartonshire"

The consultation will run from Wednesday 19 August until Wednesday 11 November 2026.

Interestingly the council acknowledges that tourism contributes around £364 million to the local economy but suggests that income from it could be used to:

• better town centres and public spaces in places that welcome a lot of visitors
• improved visitor management and countryside ranger support in busy areas
• better public transport services where there is unmet demand
• improvements to roads, car parks and other infrastructure
• support for accommodation businesses and existing/new visitor attractions to help improve/upgrade their facilities
• better public toilets serving visitor areas where demand is unmet
• financial support for local volunteer groups etc that work tirelessly to keep our towns and villages looking beautiful
