s.182 Guidance Updates - Greater London Authority's new powers

For the third time this year, the s.182 Guidance issued by the Home Officer has been updated.

This November update reflects new licensing powers for the Greater London Authority and the Mayor of London which came into force on 3^rd November 2026 by virtue of the English Devolution and Community Empowerment Act 2026.

The Mayor may now, at their discretion, call in and determine licensing applications (to grant or vary a premises licence) of potential strategic importance, during a time-limited period after a London licensing authority has reached a decision to grant the application with conditions or reject the application.

A new 18^th Chapter has been added which is dedicated to the Mayor’s new powers and includes process flows on how the powers may be implemented.
