Reflections on the 2016 Interbrewery Regatta!

What a weekend; what an experience!

17 boats locked in competitive combat over 5 races (it should have been 6 or 7 but light winds on Sunday put paid to that).  Saturday was undoubtedly the high spot will four races run in squally conditions with the wind gusting up to Force 6 – and it was raining heavily too.  It is hard to describe the impression of up to 4 or 5 40 foot boats under full sail going round a mark within feet of each other, each vying for competitive advantage or seeking tactical advantage with the rule book!

Congratulations to the teams from Jagermeister, Faucet Inns and Anglian Country Inns who took the top three spots overall. Our own overall creditable 8th out of 17 was better than we had expected with a boat filled with others who had never met before, let alone sailed together – and it was great fun.

Thank you to Keith Knowles and his team at Beds and Bars for all the organisation and for lifting it from just 5 boats last year to the 17 this year – and over £15,000 raised for charity as well.
