Newport to introduce new CSE policy for Taxi Drivers

2017

On Thursday 12th October, Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Licensing & Regulation will meet to consider revisions to their Hackney Carriage & Private Hire Policies.

A greater focus on Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) issues is included in the new policies and follows a number of highly publicised scandals where taxi facilities  and/or drivers were found to be involved in the abuse of young people.  The Rotherham scandal and subsequent report’s findings are cited in Newport’s rationale for introducing new training requirements.

The full report can be found here and includes new measures such as compulsory training regarding CSE to all Hackney Carriage & Private Hire drivers.

Law correct at the date of publication.
