Newcastle Late Night Levy - Best Practice Scheme

09 Oct
2013

As previously advised, the Newcastle City Council Late Night Levy is due to come into force 1 November 2013.

The Council has now announced details of the previously suggested ‘Best Practice Scheme’, now launched, which initially will be open to holders of Premises Licences and other Premises Certificates subject to the Levy from 1 November 2013.

Applications for membership must be received by 18 October 2013.

A 30% discount to the Late Night Levy will be applied to premises that are members of a Best Practice Scheme at the beginning of the payment year (1 November for existing premises) and members must meet the membership criteria.

Initially, the Newcastle scheme will look at four matters in relation to particular premises:

  1. Crime and disorder - members must aim to promote measures that result in or are likely to result in the reduction or prevention of crime and disorder in connection with the supply of alcohol (particularly between midnight and 06.00).
  2. Prevention of public nuisance - the Council will look at measures that premises have in place to prevent and control public nuisance and its effectiveness.
  3. Public Safety - the Council will look at a Fire Safety Risk Assessment and Health & Safety Policy.
  4. General management - the Council wants to ensure that premises are managed so that they promote the four licensing objectives.

An application for membership is available either through our office or direct from Newcastle City Council - email: latenightlevy@newcastle.gov.uk.
