2017

The Bank of England has announced that a new polymer £10 note will be issued on 14 September 2017 and has released details of the design and security features of the new note.

A dedicated Bank of England website has been set up to provide further detail: http://www.thenewten.co.uk

From Spring 2018 the existing paper £10 note featuring Charles Darwin will cease to be legal tender and will no longer be accepted by retailers and banks.

This is the first Bank of England banknote with a tactile feature to help blind and partially sighted users. It contains sophisticated security features which make it difficult to counterfeit.

In addition to last years new £5 note and this £10 note, it has been announced that the £20 notes are also to be replaced by polymer design featuring JMW Turner in 2020. There are no plans to change the current £50 note which features Boulton and Watt.
