Martyn's Law Update - SIA Consultation
2026
In addition to the guidance published today by the Home Office pursuant to s.27 the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 (‘the Act’), the SIA have today launched their own consultation.
Ats the nominated authority to enforce the terms of the Act, the SIA must also publish their own guidance document under s.12 of the Act.
This statutory guidance will sit alongside the statutory guidance that the Home Office must produce under section 27 of the Act. This section 12 guidance explains how the SIA will regulate, but not what the people and organisations affected by the Act must do to comply.
The consultation, which closes at 11:59pm on 12th June, can be found here.
In their consultation the SIA state the reasons they are consulting are to:
- obtain views to inform the final version of the section 12 guidance
- be open about our planned regulatory approach
As Martyn’s law is introduced, how the SIA approach enforcement will be a critical factor for the industry and the success of the new measures.
The consultation document goes on to state:
“The consultation is likely to be of interest to:
- organisations and people responsible for premises and events that will be in scope of the Act (‘responsible persons’)
- those who will be supporting or advising responsible persons
- others who may have responsibilities under the Act, including designated senior individuals and those who may have a duty to co-operate with responsible persons
We also welcome views from those with a wider interest in protective security or regulation, and from the public.”
We shall keep you updated.
