JDW innovative LNL approach 'approved'

We have previously commented on the innovative approach being adopted by Wetherspoons (JDW) where a Late Night Levy (LNL) is about to come into effect.

Rather than reducing the hours to take premises outside the LNL supply period on what might prove to be a permanent basis in the longer term, they seek to reduce the hours only for so long as there is a LNL in force, which would affect them.

Two such variation applications have gone through in the recent past without issue - but Nottinghamshire Police sought to object to the variation for local premises. We hear that the Licensing Committee sided with JDW and granted the variation sought today.

The form of the condition applied for follows:

"This premises licence will not authorise the supply of alcohol at any time during the late night supply period of any late night levy which may apply in the Licensing Authority Area where the late night levy supply period includes any time for which the premises licence would, save for this condition, authorise such supply"
