If you can crack the code the new £50 note is coming!

The new polymer £50 note is due to start to come into circulation on 23rd June 2021 and features Alan Turing who is best known for his codebreaking work, which helped end the Second World War.

The Bank of England states that the “new £50 completes our set of polymer notes, our most secure series of banknotes yet. As with the polymer £20, the note incorporates two windows and a two-colour foil, making it very difficult to counterfeit. There’s a metallic hologram which changes between the word ‘Fifty’ and ‘Pounds’ when the note is tilted. These security features are common across all our banknotes, so if you can check one, you can check them all.”

An A4 informative poster, perhaps useful for staff briefings, can be found here: The new £50 note A4 poster.

A more detailed resource can be found here: www.bankofengland.co.uk.

The existing £50 note will continue as legal tender for the time being and at least 6 months’ notice should be given of its ultimate withdrawal.
