2020

The Gambling Commission have announced that all online gambling operators must participate in the free multi-operator self-exclusion scheme GAMSTOP by 31st March 2020.

The scheme that has been developed for the online sector will allow consumers to self-exclude from online operators with one request rather than from each operator individually.  Neil McArthur, CEO of the Gambling Commission, stated:

“By the 31 March all online operators will be required to participate in the multi-operator self-exclusion scheme. Although the vast majority of operators are already participating in GAMSTOP this will make the coverage comprehensive.

“We welcome the fact that GAMSTOP have got to this stage in their development and encourage them to continue to improve their offer, particularly in relation to preventing those who have self-excluded being targeted by direct marketing.”

The Commission have stated however that instant Win Games offered by lotteries will also be blocked for consumers who choose to self-exclude however low risk games such as draw-based games like the Lotto and EuroMillions will still be available. The opportunity to self-exclude from draw based games is available through individual lottery operators.
