Gambling | Gambling Commission Consultation - updated to Licensing, compliance and enforcement policy

29 Nov
2021

On 17th November the Gambling Commission launches their latest consultation on changes and updates to our Licensing, Compliance, and Enforcement Policy.  The consultation which can be responded to online here will run to 9th February 2022.

The Licensing, Compliance, and Enforcement Policy (the Policy) builds on the Gambling Commission’s Statement of Principles and sets out our regulatory policies in relation to:

  • Assessing risk
  • Licensing operators and key personnel
  • Carrying out compliance activities
  • Regulatory and criminal enforcement

Some of the proposals being consulted upon include:

  • A proposal where application fees will be forfeited if incomplete applications are submitted.
  • A policy which means that products whose name, branding marketing or game rules contain language associated with financial products such as “stock”, “share”, “index” or “investment” will not, going forward, normally be granted operating licenced by the Commission.
  • A policy which will reject applications for licences which are not, in the opinion of the Commission, likely to provide facilities for gambling within a reasonable period.

A print copy of the full consultation can be found here.
