First extensions announced in Scotland by Aberdeen City Licensing Board for the Men’s Football World Cup

2026

We have previously given updates around the upcoming Men’s football World Cup in Summer 2026, and what may happen or be required around licensing hours within both England and Wales, and Scotland.

In Scotland there is currently no action being taken by the Scottish government centrally in relation to extending hours for those Matches involving Scotland(although that may change). The issue therefore requires action at a local level by each Licensing board, or individual applications

It is being reported that Aberdeen City Licnesign Board are the first Scottish Licensing Board to take action and have granted extensions with flexibility to open for an additional 30 minutes after the final whistle of Scotland matches.

In becoming the first Scottish Licensing Board to make such a move, it ensures pubs, bars and restaurants across the City of Aberdeen can show Scotland’s late‑night fixtures which kick off as late as 2am UK time. This is the first Men’s World Cup for which Scotland has qualified since 1998

We will keep you updated on any wider changes in England Wales and Scotland
