It has been reported, that the Irish government has notified the European Commission of plans to ban alcohol promotions in the country.

This development flows from Irelands efforts to reduce excessive alcohol consumption, the Country’s Public Health (Alcohol) Act was passed last year.

The proposed plans are to ban the use of bonus or loyalty card points which would allow people to buy alcoholic drinks at a reduced price or free of charge.

We will monitor this position, which will no doubt be of interest to all operators, given the  proximity of this countries Alcohol and entertainment economy to the United Kingdom.
