PASS, the provider of age verification documentation for those individuals aged over 18 is consulting as to the implementation of a digital system which will be displayed on the individual’s phone as well as or in substitution for physical proof of age card they have produced for a considerable period of time.

PASS have confirmed that a growing number of people wish to prove their age on a digital system via their mobile phone but are consulting with Retailers, Proof of Age providers, Enforcement Bodies and Consumers to see if there is an acceptable digital proof of age format.

The key elements of the proposed solution are:

  • Verification of a valid digital proof of age through the retail scanning a QR card off the customer’s phone.
  • Retailers being able to programme a common code into their till systems or via a downloadable App to use on their own phones.
  • Ensuring that the same PASS standards for verifying age of the Applicant as are achieved on the physical card are achieved in the digital format.
  • Issues which have already been identified is the potential exchange of data from the PASS card holder to the Retailer and to what extent digital proof of age could be used in online environments rather than the traditional physical retail environment.

The consultation will run until 31st April and any queries on the consultation can be sent to passdigitalconsultation@gmail.com.
