In his Economic Statement to the House of Commons the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, announced a number of measures to support employers and especially the hospitality sector including a job retention bonus, cut in VAT and a new scheme entitled “Eat out, to help out”.

Throughout August, the Chancellor announced, people dining out between Monday to Wednesday would receive a 50% discount (up to the value of £10) per head, including children.

This would apply at all ‘participating’ restaurants. Businesses wishing to participate can register online via a government website to be launched on Monday.

We will provide further details and a link to the website once it is launched next week.

The Chancellor described the theory behind this novel scheme, not deployed previously in the UK, as generating demand for those hospitality businesses nervous about reopening their units.
