Covid 19 - Furlough Reduction from 1st July

01 Jul
2021

From today employers with staff on furlough have to contribute 10% of the 80% of wages staff receive whist on furlough.

The scheme is to be completely wound down  by the end of September.

This was a timescale set out when all restrictions were expected to have eased by 21st June which has now being delayed until 19th July and at this point in time we do not know what that will actually look like in real terms.

As certain areas of the hospitality sector are still in full lockdown this is a bitter pill and may impact some business acutely.

For an analysis and detailed explanation of the change from a HR perspective please see article by specialist advisers Bhayani Law: 'The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (furlough)'
