The All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for the Night Time Economy has published its report, entitled Covid-19 and UK nightlife, which looks at the impact of the pandemic and government support for businesses in the night time economy.

The call for evidence, which took place between January and February 2021 received over 20,000 responses from across the sector.

The report, which can be accessed in full: 'Covid-19 and UK nightlife report: An inquiry by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Night Time Economy' - makes several key findings and warns that the sector is at risk of ‘extinction’ unless the government acts urgently. The report urges the Prime Minister and the Chancellor to provide a sector-specific package together with a detailed roadmap for the reopening of the night time economy to help aid economic recovery.

The recommendations of the report, which are wide ranging and include the appointment of a UK government night time economy adviser can be found page 42 of the report.

The report makes for absorbing reading for those with an interest in the night time economy and it will be interesting to see which recommendations, if any, the government act on.
