Councillor's handbook

The Local Government Association has now issued a handbook designed for Councillors dealing with applications under the Licensing Act 2003.

The handbook, which is available for download and review here, includes helpful sections on conducting hearings, the roles of responsible authorities and the conduct of those members of the Committee.

In addition the guidance includes advice on the drafting and imposition of licence conditions giving numerous examples of good and bad practice.

The handbook makes interesting reading for all parties involved in licensing applications, no matter what side of the Committee table you are sat.
