Business Improvement Districts - and the Late Night Levy

10 Nov
2014

As part of the town centre announcement in December 2013, a commitment was made by Department for Communities and Local Government for a review of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs). The review was undertaken during the spring and summer 2014 involving ‘BIDs, sector leads and Local Authorities'.

One of the many recommendations which they have come up with is amending the guidance to Local Authorities to ensure they carefully consider exempting from the Late Night Levy, any eligible Business Improvement Districts that are already funding night time economy measures.

The full list of recommendations can be found here: 'Review of Business Improvement Districts'.

Some Authorities who have adopted the Levy have offered discounts to appropriate BID members or indeed an exemption; others have not.
