The East Riding of Yorkshire Council is considering introducing a "Late Night Levy".

In a report, which is to be considered by the Council's Safer and Stronger Communities Overview and Scrutiny Sub-Committee, if the late-night supply period runs from 01.00 it is stated that it would affect 650 premises across East Yorkshire where operators would have to pay between £209 and £4,440 a year, depending on their business rates and whether they are in a council accreditation scheme.  If the levy were effective from midnight, a further 202 premises would be affected.

The Levy will be considered by the Sub-Committee, at 10am on Thursday, at County Hall in Beverley.  The matter will then be considered by the Licensing Committee in October and then by the Cabinet.

Once administration costs are deducted, the net income would be proportioned at a minimum 70% for the Police.  If 01:00 was adopted, after administration costs, the potential income for the Police amounts to c.£100,000 per year and £45,000 for the Licensing Authority.

The full meeting agenda can be viewed here, with the Levy being considered at pages 27-35.
