KATHARINE REDFORD is a specialist in all aspects of licensing law. Kate, together with John Gaunt, founded the firm in 1995, and is responsible for much of the firm’s growth and development in recent years. During Kate’s legal career she has been based in Sheffield, but has become respected nationwide, for her substantive and complex licensing applications.
One of Kate’s key areas is the creation and ongoing development of the firm’s case management systems. Kate introduced a new case management system to process applications under the Licensing Act 2003, and at the height of the transitional period, managed a team of 35 staff, responsible for lodging over 2500 individual premises licence applications, and over 4000 personal licence applications. Kate continues to develop these systems to ensure a highly streamlined application procedure.
During licensing reform Kate was retained by numerous clubs, sports associations and membership bodies to re-licences their premises, and spearheaded a large scale application procedure for key corporate clients. Kate offers highly pragmatic and straightforward advice on the most cost effective way of achieving set goals.
One of Kate’s areas of interest lies in applications to vary existing premises licences, particularly with a view to ensure compliance with forthcoming disability and anti social legislation, and she has been instrumental in developing an informal variation procedure with a number of Licensing Authorities.
Kate is a keen walker and can be found walking in Derbyshire, usually with her child on her shoulders and, her mobile phone to her ear!
