An Application to the Licensing Authority for a licence which authorises an individual to sell alcohol

If you sell alcohol to members of the public you can only do so where you hold a Personal Licence, or a Personal Licence Holder has authorised the sale.

To apply, you must have obtained an approved qualification, and we recommend the BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders. We run up to four NCPLH courses per month and can normally offer a place to candidates within two to three weeks of their enquiry.

We can offer you a one stop application process, and can deal with all aspects including your Criminal Records Bureau check and your qualification.

Once you have obtained your personal licence you will be able to sell and authorise sales of alcohol from premises within England and Wales which have a current premises licence. All shops, restaurants, cafes, bars and supermarkets which are alcohol retail outlets need at least one personal licence holder, although most venues should have a number of personal licence holders.

Applicants with criminal convictions should seek advice before applying for a personal licence.

We have our dedicated GLASS Personals team assisting applicants with all aspects of their personal licence application. Please contact Kate Redford or Kate Novakovic on 0114 2663400 for more information.
