Gambling Act 2005 – Conversion Timetable

The Gambling Act 2005 is upon us.  There are a number of critical deadlines prescribed by the Regulations by which time certain steps need to be taken.  The consequences of missing a deadline could have a major impact on operators within the gaming industry.  Below is a summary of the deadlines which we suggest you commit to memory.  Anyone who has not obtained the necessary permissions from the Licensing Authority and the Gambling Commission will not be entitled to trade.

2nd January 2007 -  The first day on which you could apply to the Gambling Commission for a new operator or personal licence.

27th April 2007 -  Current operators must apply to the Gambling Commission for your operator licence and management personal licences for before 27 April 2007 to be sure of getting continuation rights on your existing permissions (for continuation rights for premises licences see below) from 1 September 2007 whether or not a new operating licence has been issued by the Gambling Commission.

21st  May 2007 -  From this date forward all premises licences applications must be made to your local authority under the new Gambling Act.

29th June 2007   Current operators must submit their applications for any additional functional personal licences by 29 June 2007 to be sure of getting continuation rights on your existing permissions from 1 September 2007.

30th July 2007   Operators with premises licensed under the current system must apply to their local authority for premises licences under the new Gambling Act by this date in order to have their premises licence by 1 September 2007.

1st September 2007   The Gambling Act comes into force. Date from which your new operator licence is valid if approved prior to September 1.

1st October 2007   Date at which your first annual fee will be due if your licence was issued before or on 1 September 2007.
