BINGO! Increase in Participation Fee and Prizes
24 March 2010
On the 11th March 2010 the Gambling Act 2005 (Operating Licence Conditions) (Amendments) Regulation 2010 came into force.
The purpose of these regulations was to increase the participation fee and cash prize limits in respect of Bingo premises.
The standard conditions attached to all Bingo Operating Licences shall be varied in respect of prize gaming, increasing the participation fee in respect of any one chance to win a prize in a particular game from 50p to £1.00.
In addition, where a prize for which a game is played is money, the amount of that prize has been increased to £100.00 (if no person under 18 years is permitted to be on the premises) or £70.00 in all other cases.
After a well documented period of difficult trading for the Gaming Industry, including the Bingo sector, these increased limits will be welcomed, even if the sums remain modest.
