Diamond Jubilee - proposed licensing relaxation - update
05 December 2011
We have previously reported on a proposed relaxation in licensing hours on the occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee weekend. See link.
This consultation has now closed and we await a decision on what relaxation will ultimately be allowed. The consultation itself proposed an extension of licensing hours to 1.00am the following morning on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 June 2012.
As this is intended as a long weekend celebration, it always seemed unfortunate to us that similar extensions were not proposed for the Sunday and Monday evenings.
It is being reported that the BBPA, in its response to the consultation, has suggested that the extra hours be moved to Sunday and Monday evenings instead as many licensed premises already have these ‘extended hours’ as standard on their premises licences.
Separately, as we have reported elsewhere, the Government has apparently ruled out any general extensions of permitted hours in respect of the Olympics.
