All change at the SIA?
14 October 2011
At the Security Industry Association (SIA) conference this week, more detail was released about the new body which will replace the SIA which is to disappear as part of the Government's cost cutting exercise.
The new body will be self financing and free of Government control, but will retain the name SIA. It will have a new framework. So that is all clear then!
The new system proposes that businesses should take primary responsibility for checking and registering their employees which would include pub companies and small family businesses. These entities will be required to register for a new licence, whilst individual SIA operators, such as doormen, will also have to register with the Authority and receive their own licence card.
It was stated at the conference that it was the intention that the changes would lead to better regulation of the industry across the UK, but ensuring that the private sector industry continued to flourish whilst maintaining the high standards it had previously achieved.
One immediate concern is that the current fee structure will change with operators and individual doormen facing higher charges, so as to fund the new entity. So as to explain the latest plans and to hear from members of the private security industry, the SIA have organised a series of road shows, attendance is free, but places are limited.
If you require more information, please see the link to the SIA website where there is a review of the conference and proposals for change and the road show dates.
