Gambling enforcement - for Pubs!

13 October 2011

The Gambling Commission issue periodic bulletins to local authorities to keep them up to date with developments in their activities and the law in relation to gambling from their perspective. Clearly these will have an impact upon how those local authorities deal with gambling enforcement through their officers.

In the latest bulletin there is a section on "developing awareness in gambling" This could impact upon the general licensed trade rather than just the gambling industry as it lays out how the gambling commission propose to roll out, through their compliance managers, training for local authority licensing officers in a number of areas including those relevant to pub and bar operators. There will be a focus on the following areas; illegal betting in pubs, poker in pubs ,illegally sited gaming machines, how to identify SWP's, and the approach to test purchasing .

Now may be a good time for operators to re - visit these matters in view of anticipated increased activity in these areas!
