Personal Licences under the Gambling Act 2005

22 September 2011

With Gambling reform in 2007 the unfamiliar concept of personal licences was introduced. This was in part a nod to personal licences in liquor licensing however they are very different and cover not only certain operational personnel (personal functional licences) but also those involved in more senior management functions (personal management licences).

We mention these now as we are finding there is an increasing trend for the Commission to request additional personal licence holders in certain existing gambling operators. In addition the Commission has recently reminded holders that they must inform and update them on any “key event” such as change of address or convictions etc as it is a requirement of the licence. However, in under 12 months these licences will be due for the first “maintenance check” which involves the payment of a fee and ensuring accuracy of the information they hold.

Our advice check your licence now and update any changes.
