The Use Of Recorded Music In 'Specially Featured Entertainment' - Consultation

19 September 2011

Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL), the revenue collecting Society for record companies and performers, has released a second consultation paper detailing proposed changes to its Specially Featured Entertainment Tariff (SFE), which applies to discos and DJ type events in pubs, nightclubs, hotels and similar premises (something other than background music).

The Consultation Paper, which is avaliable here, proposes very significant increases in the fees payable and should be a matter of significant concern to affected operators. This is a complex area but operators should ensure that their voice is heard – perhaps through their trade association or body.

The consultation expires 14 October 2011 and so time is critical.
