As well as being practicing Licensing Solicitors, John Gaunt & Partners are accredited trainers by the BII and deliver courses throughout England, Scotland and Wales to the leisure industry from large corporate operators to sole traders in the form of the BII qualifications but also bespoke courses designed to individual business needs.
We believe that our practical experience in licensing law enables us to deliver courses which provide real help and explanation of the law regulating the leisure industry.
Take a look at our delegates' comments about the quality of the courses. These Testimonials speak for themselves.
All our courses are delivered by qualified Licensing Solicitors who have day to day knowledge of the Licensing Act 2003. Our Solicitors are also specialists in the law relating to Gambling, the Licensing Law applicable to Scotland under the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005, along with regulatory enforcement. Courses are regularly delivered to operators of licensed premises, from General Manager to bar staff.
We also deliver courses to the enforcers of the law, particularly the Police, Environmental Health Officers and Licensing Enforcement Officers - the key courses attended by them are the National Certificate for Licensing Practitioners and National Certificate for Licensing Practitioners (Gambling). The latter is the only course on the Gambling Act 2005 and is an asset to anyone wishing to enter that part of the industry.
Our team is administrated by Laura Mateer, contactable on 0114 2668664.

We have a training suite at our offices in Sheffield. Training is also provided across the country at pre-booked venues, or alternatively can be provided at your own venue or a location convenient for you and your staff.
Our Course Administrator would be happy to discuss course venues with you, and any specialist requirements. BIIAB exams can now be undertaken in several languages, for example, Thai, Welsh, Polish, Turkish and Chinese. We are also able to make special provision for anyone with learning difficulties. This will be discussed confidentially with you.

At John Gaunt & Partners we understand from our day to day contact with the leisure industry, and the problems which arise, that targeted training is sometimes required. This can be to support a business objective, to eradicate an historic weakness or to meet the requirements of enforcement agencies and, in some cases, provide evidence to support the retention of your Premises Licence. A sign of the current times is an increase in enforcement action and the commencement of Summary Reviews, Closure Orders and Under Age Enforcement campaigns. The philosophy is to try to prevent such situations arising.
Our bespoke courses are delivered to meet your objectives and are not provided on a "one size fits all" basis, and could help you avoid significant issues in the future.
The range of expertise within our team allows delivery of courses in relation to the Licensing Act 2003, Licensing Act (Scotland) 2005, Gambling Act 2005, Regulatory Enforcement (from entities such as Trading Standards, Weights & Measures and Health & Safety), Health Act 2006 (Smoking Provisions), Environmental Protection Act 1990 and other ancillary noise nuisance legislation along with many other areas which affect the leisure industry.
Seminars and presentations can be provided on all licensing issues and we regularly undertake presentations to commercial law practices, institutions, trade groups, pub watch and to government entities.
To discuss bespoke training for your team, please contact one of our Specialist Licensing Solicitors to discuss your training needs or our Course Administrator, Laura Mateer on 0114 2668664.
If you have a regulatory issue, please see the Regulatory section for our services.
