John Gaunt & Partners is a legal practice dealing only in licensing and entertainment, gambling and regulatory matters. It was established in 1995 to provide a dedicated, first class, pro-active and cost effective service to meet the needs of those active in the leisure industry both in the on and off licence trade and the gambling industry.
We have a resource, substantially unmatched elsewhere in the Country, comprising our team of Solicitors, paralegals and administrative support staff.
This resource gives us the ability to ensure that we can provide a fast responsive service at any time of the day or night, appreciating the nature of the business in which we operate is not limited to office hours - so neither are we.

Update (September 2011) - In the newly issued edition of "The Legal 500" (widely acknowledged as one of the leading independent guides to the legal profession) the firm is again recognised as a ‘first tier' licensing practice and with all four of our partners recommended for licensing led by the ‘exceptional’ John Gaunt who is specifically named in the elite "Leading Lawyers" list for Yorkshire and Humberside.
Update (November 2010) - Chambers 2011 again ranks us as a top firm for licensing; indeed they say "this dedicated Sheffield practice is one of the leading names in licensing throughout England and Wales, and has also begun to make significant inroads into the Scottish market." John Gaunt & Partners was set up as a specialist licensing practice in 1995 by Partners John Gaunt and Katharine Redford. The intervening period has seen the practice grow significantly in terms of its size, range of clients and areas of expertise.
Those clients include national operators of pubs and bars, restaurants, hotels and developers and retailers of all sizes within the off-trade including many of the major leisure operators by whom we are often nationally retained, and to whom we provide a discreet professional service.
In terms of gambling, we represent bookmakers and betting offices and produce a quarterly legal update for the industry.
We are also retained by leading commercial legal practices to advise on licensing due diligence in appropriate matters.
Licensing Services are broken down into management services, bespoke services, regulatory services and training.
Our areas of specialisation include alcohol and entertainment licensing, Gambling, Regulatory and Due Diligence and training.
